Frequently Asked Questions
How does checking in work?
You need to be within 200 metres of a shop to check in. The app uses your GPS location to verify this. You can only check in to the same shop once per day.
How are points calculated?
Your first ever visit to a shop earns 35 points — a 10-point base plus a 25-point first-visit bonus. Every return visit to that same shop on a different day earns 10 points.
Visiting the 'shop of the week' earns you a 25 point bonus.
What are badges?
Badges are awarded automatically when you reach certain milestones, such as visiting your first shop, checking in at 5 different shops, or logging 10 total visits.
What is Shop of the Week?
Each week the Pie & Mash team highlights a featured shop on the home screen — a great way to discover somewhere new.
Can I check in to the same shop more than once?
Yes, but only once per day. You can visit as many different shops as you like on the same day and check in to each one.
What is a 'Meatup'?
Fancy meeting up with some other users in a group to share some pie, mash, liquor and banter? You can either create a meet-up (Meatup) for any group you are a member of or say you are going to the meet-up by using the 'Join' button.
What are groups?
Groups let you connect with friends and fellow pie & mash fans. Create a group, share your invite code, and chat with members in the Community tab.
To join a group open the Community tab and tap "Join Group". Enter the invite code shared by your group admin.
Does the app include reviews?
No we don't. Everyone has a preference and everyone has a view on what's good and what's not so good. There are many social forums where this can be discussed and we feel the best place for reviews is there. In the app we just agree we all just love pie and mash.
What is the leaderboard?
The Community tab shows an all-time leaderboard and a weekly leaderboard ranked by points. Keep visiting shops to climb the ranks!
How do I get in touch?
There is a feedback form on the home screen. Our admin team review all feedback daily. If you see something wrong, have an idea about a new feature you would like to see, find a broken link in the app, just let us know.
What is the origin of the Pie and Mash app?
Two brothers, let's call them Jeff and Dave, meet up and go for Pie & Mash whenever the one of them that lives abroad flies into London. They walk into Manzes Tower Bridge Road and randomly sit down with a bloke, let's call him Norman, who loves Pie and Mash so much he's been to every shop in the UK and written a book about it. After a lovely lunch and great chat the idea for the app is born.
How do I get my shop added or updated?
If the details we have of your shop need updating just send us details on the feedback form and we will get it sorted. Alternatively after verification we can give you access through the app to maintain your shop's details.
If your shop is missing do the same. The criteria is simple, it must serve traditional Pie and Mash as its main business and have a sit down facility.
I own a shop, can I update details for it myself?
Yes you can. Contact us through the feedback option on the home page with some contact details. We need to verify you first but we can then set it up so you can update your shop details using the app.
What is the difference between Global Challenges and Group Challenges?
Global Challenges are created by the Pie & Mash team and are available to all users. Completing a global challenge earns you a badge and is a great way to discover more shops. Group Challenges are created by group admins and are only visible to members of that group — perfect for a bit of friendly competition within your pie-loving circle!
Account Management
Delete your account: Go to Settings in the app and tap "Delete Account". This permanently removes your profile and all associated data.
Reset your password: Tap "Forgot Password" on the sign-in screen and follow the instructions sent to your email.
